Yoga is a path to self-realization. It is a process of systematically encountering, examining, and transcending each of the various gross and subtle levels of false identity in the mind field, until the truest self emerges and shines like a jewel.Yoga, Vedanta, Tantra compliment one another. You can reach the heights of Kundalini Awakening with practice. It has tremendous power. We are dealing with cosmic energy. Hence, it should be used responsibly. It takes us to the path of homeostasis. We live in a world of chaos and imbalance but the universe resides within us. Silence is the language of GOD. Once you know how to connect with the infinite, you can access to this tremendous power which lies within the cosmos.
It can be broadly divided into four parts:
Concentration (Samadhi Pada) - Yoga is the restraint of mental modifications
Practices (Sadhana Pada) - Kriya Yoga and Ashtanga Yoga
Progressing/Manifestation (Vibhuti Pada)
Liberation (Kaivalya Pada) - The process of "moksha" and the reality of transcendental ego.
There are eight components of yoga:
-------------------------------------
-
Yamas - Non-violence, truthfulness, non stealing, continence, non covetousness
-
Niyama - Cleanliness, contentment, heat or spiritual austerities, study of scriptures and one self, surrender to god

Raja Yoga/ Kingdom or the vast territory of the mind
Jnana Yoga/ Knowledge
Many consider asanas as yoga. That is only a part of it. May be Hatha yoga. Some practice breathing excercises considering Raja yoga. But it's the combination that works the best.
